2 Guys on a Wall is a one act, surreal, and psychedelic comedy set on scaffolding 1,200 feet high in the air atop the iconic “largest chimney in Canada”, INCO’s Sudbury SuperStack, on August 20, 1970.
The 2 Guys, macho bricklaying miners, are killing time singing, and philosophizing about the Canadian Identity, and what makes hippie-chicks tick. While the voice of their boss hollers up at them, they are taunted and egged on by a Greek Chorus of 3-5 1970s gay sexual fantasy figure beefcake Guys in the Back. A tornado hits and the wind blows 3 scantily clad, 1970s heterosexual fantasy figure, highway flag girls up onto the scaffolding to the astonishment of the 2 Guys (one of whom comes out of the “closet” as a gust of wind blows him and the 3-5 Guys in the Back away). The 3 girls, Long Tall Sally, Afro Girl, and “Bikini in the Surf Chick” can be played by Drag Queens.
JACK: bricklaying miner: wears a tool belt, hard-hat, jeans and white t-shirt, 1970s fulsome moustache with long sideburns and hair – gay “in the closet”, he has a red bandana tucked in his back pocket.
ALEX: bricklaying miner: wears a tool belt, hard-hat, jeans and plaid cut-off sleeveless shirt, 1970s sideburns, is clean shaven with long, surfer style, laid back hair – heterosexual.
VOICE (Off-Stage): production boss with booming no-nonsense tone of authority.
GREEK CHORUS:
1ST GUY IN THE BACK: gay 1970s sexual fantasy figure: wears a hard hat and garage grease monkey shirtless overalls, carries a wrench. Working class beefcake type.
2ND GUY IN THE BACK: gay 1970s sexual fantasy figure: wears a hard hat and biker leathers, “Wild Bunch” bad-boy outlaw beefcake type.
3RD GUY IN THE BACK: gay 1970s sexual fantasy figure: wears a hard hat and speedo bathing suit. Lifeguard, Olympic diver or body builder beefcake type.
(Optional: 4th GUY IN THE BACK: gay 1970s sexual fantasy figure beefcake type
5th GUY IN THE BACK: gay 1970s sexual fantasy figure beefcake type)
(Optional: following 3 female characters can be played by Drag Queens)
LONG TALL SALLY: Tall, Indigenous-Canadian Hippie-Chick, 1970s sexual fantasy figure: long straight hair with headband, blue tinted granny glasses, wearing suede hot pants, thigh high leather boots, filmy braless peasant blouse and a macramé cape. Earthy Summer of Love sensuality.
“BIKINI IN THE SURF CHICK”: French-Canadian Hippie-Chick, 1970s sexual fantasy figure: long hair, false eyelashes and groovy blue eye make-up with frosted lipstick, wearing white go-go boots and a skimpy fur bikini. Exudes frank, open sexuality.
AFRO GIRL: Black Hippie-Chick, 1970s sexual fantasy figure: sporting a magnificent afro, wears hot pants, braless tie-dye halter top, flip flops, bangles and hoop earrings. Sexy voice and foxy attitude.
