Synopsis:

Adults speak children’s exact words about love, life and the world in this fresh verbatim work. Drawn from interviews with over 40 whip-smart and brutally honest children, a dynamite adult cast allows an adult audience to hear kids’ ideas and experiences anew.

The results are surprising, hilarious and moving.

Characters:

The cast size can be anywhere from 6 to as many as you like – lines can be reassigned as you like.

Around half the children interviewed were from Black, Indigenous and/or families of colour, so please reflect this diversity in the cast. A number identified as non-binary and/or trans, so please also consider at least 1 trans or non-binary actor.

Actors should perform as adults, not pretend to be kids. Complex character work is not needed, deliver the text as simply as possible–the moments of dissonance are just as revealing as the moments where text sounds almost natural coming from adults.
