Synopsis:

Hot. Burning hot. In Dry Streak, during the dry, hot summer of 1988, Kate, a young city woman moves with her boyfriend to his family’s Saskatchewan farm. After months of heat and dust, Kate makes a public promise: if only this drought would break, she’d run naked through town.

Characters:

The Richards Family

OLIVE RICHARDS: A farm wife in her late 50s or early 60s. Olive is dedicated to her family and community. Dresses in non-descript casual-wear (pants, T-shirts).

PETER RICHARDS: Olive’s husband. Peter is a gruff but well meaning farmer in his late 50s, early 60s. Dresses in blue jeans, work shirts, workboots, and agricultural caps.

JOHN RICHARDS: (28) Dresses in jeans, T-shirts, running shoes, and ball caps.

DENISE (RICHARDS) SMITH: (26) John’s sister, Olive and Peter’s middle child. She is married with two children and her clothing is stylish, but practical.

CHARLIE RICHARDS: (24) Peter and Olive’s youngest child. Lives in Saskatoon and works at a radio station. Dresses in popular eighties style (red leather jackets, skinny ties, etc).

Others

KATE ALLEN: (25) John’s new girlfriend. She dresses in 80s punk and alternative fashions and prefers alternative music.

ROB ARMSTRONG: Stony Valley’s mayor, newspaper owner/editor, and entrepreneur. He is a friend of Peter, Peter’s age. He dresses in khaki pants and shirts.
