Synopsis:

An adaptation of the legendary Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling. A young girl duck, Enid, is abandoned by her mother due to peer pressure. After many trials and tribulations, Enid manages to survive winter by herself. She returns to the pond as a full-grown swan of exceptional grace, embraced by her fellow swans and accepted by the other animals.”

First Produced:

Enid and the Swans was commissioned by Soundstreams for the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus and Youth Chorus with conductor Ann Cooper Gay. A workshop presentation of excerpts of this forty-minute opera written for and performed by children was staged at Soundstreams' Northern Voices Choral Festival in Toronto on June 11, 2005.
