Synopsis:

Le Pédophile is a courtroom drama, following the lives of the Accused, who is on trial for rape against a minor, his family as the trial unfolds, the Plaintiff’s family, and their respective lawyers. The Accused unpacks his self-justification for his actions while the trial unfolds, giving the audience a unique insight to the mentality of a pedophile. While he struggles to maintain his sanity, his defence lawyer goes through a moral dilemma over his desire for money and his faith.

Characters:

The Accused is an upper middle class white man, who is well read and educated. He has dated and offensive views, and tries to manipulate the situation as best as possible. He believes he has done nothing wrong because he does not see rape against a child as something that should be a crime. He looks down at minorities and those in poverty, especially single mothers.

The Defence’s sense of morals and ethics are put into question because of this trial. He is purely motivated by money, but defends his greed with Christian justifications. The Defence does not care if the Accused is found guilty or innocent, only that he gets paid.

The Accused’s Girlfriend believes her boyfriend has not done any wrong whatsoever. Instead of acknowledging the Plaintiff’s age, she is moreso upset that this “cheating scandal” has gone public. She is a woman of preservation, and will do anything to try to save her boyfriend from being seen as a pedophile.

The Prosecutor is reserved in terms of morals and ethics. He does not believe in Christianity being in a courtroom, and focuses solely on facts and logic. His motivations for taking the case are unknown, although are speculated upon.

The Plaintiff’s Mother is a single mom, who had been widowed ever since her husband killed himself. She has other children, although struggles to watch over them as she is overwhelmed with work. She is a mother with faults, although she is trying her best to bring justice to her daughter and go to protect her and her siblings when she had failed to do so in the past.

The Accused’s Mother will never acknowledge her son’s wrong doings. She only wants the trial to simply “blow over” and does not understand why people are outraged. She coddles her son, and is blindly loyal to a fault.
