KOSTCHI THE DEATHLESS: A sorcerer who was once a Prince. He has found a way of hiding his death outside his body and is now obsessed with becoming immortal.
STAVR GODANOVICH: A young nobleman and skillful hunter. Cheerful, good natured, optimistic, and blessed with good luck.
SORROW: A droll clownish Spirit (skilled in physical theatre). Any age.
FATE: A zany, all knowing Spirit who lives in the deepest forest.
PRINCE VLADIMIR OF KIEV: 40, a self-centred but benign tyrant.
KATRINA: 30, his rather oppressed and long suffering wife.
RILKA: 20, Katrina’s niece. Energetic, sweet natured, in love with Ivan.
IVAN MIKHAILOVICH: 25, head of the Prince’s bodyguard. Fit, chivalrous, and tongue tied.
VASILISSA ALEXANDROVNA/PRINCE VASILY: 20’s. A quick witted, confident young noblewoman. she is in love with her husabnd, Stavr, and dresses as a man to rescue him.
THE FIREBIRD: Can be operated as a puppet, or performed in costume.
