Public Pledges

We are thrilled to share the following public pledges made by Canadian post-secondary theatre programs:

#1. Theatre & Performance Studies, University of Toronto Scarborough

Set for 10 out of 12, Leigha Lee Browne Theatre, University of Toronto Scarborough, March 2018.

The Theatre & Performance Studies (TAPS) program at the University of Toronto Scarborough has produced one major faculty-directed production with the senior students in each year of its 45-year history. To date, the large majority of the playwrights represented in these productions have been male. Going forward, TAPS pledges to produce plays by men and women in equal numbers. We kicked off our pledge in the 2017-18 academic year with a well-received production of Anne Washburn’s play 10 out of 12. – Prof. Barry Freeman

#2. School of Dramatic Art, University of Windsor

2017 University Players production of “Blue Stockings” by Jessica Swale.

The University of Windsor’s School of Dramatic Art produces six shows each year through its theatre company University Players, which is entering its 60th season. The School of Dramatic Art pledges to produce equal numbers of plays by men and women in 2018-19. We are excited to honour our commitment to gender equity by producing plays by Margaret Atwood, Caryl Churchill, and Anne Washburn.
